The Different Kinds of Dart Boards
Darts has become very socially accepted, and there is no better way to enjoy a game than with some close friends. The fact is that the game is addictive.
Regardless of what your intent is, if you know how dart boards are made it will help you make and better selection when you decide you want a dart board of your own. Here are some of the most popular types of dart boards.
Bristle Dartboards
Bristle dartboards are made from sisal fibers that have been compressed and are adhered to a board with the edges being held by metal banding. This type of board has the advantage that the hole will close behind it when a dart is removed from the board. The result is that bristle dartboards will usually last much longer than most other types of dartboards. Sisal is considered the best fiber for a dartboard and you should avoid a board that is made from any other material. You should try to get one that has a removable number ring so that you can rotate the board to the most unused areas which will promote even wear on the board.
Electronic Dart Boards
Electronic darts is becoming ever increasing popular. These arcade board are becoming more popular in bars, because they can be set up for league play against other members. This type of board is made up of a playing surface that has numerous holes. The score if automatically recorded when the dart enters one of these holes. As a result of design limitations, the targets on the board are usually enlarged which make it popular with novices because they don’t get so frustrated. Some of these boards use steel tipped darts. This type of board is similar to a bristle board, but has the added advantage of automatic scoring. While these boards are continually improving due to technology, they seem to wear out more rapidly than the boards as a result of the constant abuse from the heavier steel tipped darts.
Wooden Dartboards
These days, it is unusual to find a wooden dart board, although they are used in the American style darts game. Rather being made from a solid piece of wood, they are handmade from basswood. The unique American style dartboards feature a square frame that has a round scoring area in it that you can rotate. Usually the same numbers on a board are hit time and again which permits some areas to become badly worn. When they become too badly worn this type of dartboard is normally printed on either side so that they can be turned over.
